SmarterMail 5.5 Upgrade Information

After significant testing, our team will be performing an upgrade on the e-mail servers beginning October 1, 2008.  We are upgrading from SmarterMail 4.3 to SmarterMail 5.5.  This process will not result in any loss of information, preferences, or user settings, but it could slighty delay the flow of messages for a brief period while the install is taking place.  A server restart is required during the installation process.

SmarterMail 5.5 offers a new optimized interface design, better spam protection, more security, increased performance, and the ability to synchronize with a variety of mobile devices.  Also, since SmarterMail 5.5 allows us to apply spam filters to both incoming and outgoing messages, we may soon be able to setup automatic forwards to AOL and Comcast customers once again.  We will keep you informed on this issue.

We are also standing up a dedicated linux server to run SpamAssassin in conjunction with the mail servers.  SpamAssassin is a leading open source mail filter that uses a variety of spam-detection techniques, including DNS-based and checksum-based spam detection, Bayesian filtering, external programs, blacklists and online databases.  So while your are out saving lives, SpamAssassin will be saving your inbox!
